About the farm

Woodwinds Farm is nestled in the gorgeous backwoods of Independent Hill, Virginia, a little drive south of Washington, DC. The original farmhouse, a two bedroom cabin, was built over two-hundred years ago on a strong stone foundation. After purchasing the cabin in 1973, Olin Bockes (the current owner) and his family constructed the larger portion over a period of seven years.

Being located just miles from our Nation's capital, as well as the Pentagon, Fort Belvoir and Quantico Marine Base, we began renting the property out to military families and friends seeking a place to stay while they visited the DC area. After several people told us how much they enjoyed their stay, we began considering renting the house full-time, and promptly posted it on Airbnb.

Since then, almost two dozen families have stayed at the farm, all of whom have absolutely loved the experience. Whether you’d rather sit, relax and enjoy the nature around you, or hike the nearly 50 acres of land, or bird-watch eagles and geese, or fish the pond, or stay the night while you tour nearby attractions, we have a little something for everyone. As past guests have said, it really is a nature-lover’s dream retreat.

We hope you can stay with us too and experience it for yourself. Contact us today and let us help you plan the perfect getaway.
